1. What was your favorite course this summer?

My favorite course this summer was "Strategic Landscape” taught by one of the program academic directors, Professor Christina Fang. This course delved deep into the determinants of profitability variance among firms, exploring both external and internal factors. What I particularly appreciated was the course's emphasis on the "big picture" and its acknowledgment of the complexities and uncertainties inherent in strategic analysis. The instructor's teaching style was engaging and thought-provoking, often challenging us to think critically about real-world scenarios. One of the most impactful assignments was the Value Chain Analysis, where we dissected the internal activities of a firm to understand how they affected profitability. This exercise not only honed my diagnostic skills but also gave me a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies of business operations. The most significant takeaway for me was the importance of adaptability in strategy, given the ever-evolving business landscape. I am confident that the skills and knowledge I've acquired will be invaluable in my future career, especially when making strategic decisions under uncertainty.

2. What was your most memorable program experience this summer?

This summer, the most memorable experience was the boat cruise on the Hudson River in New York City. It was a sunny afternoon, and the city skyline looked stunning from the water. I was with my classmates, and we all had a great time. We chatted, laughed, and took lots of photos. The breeze from the river felt refreshing. It was a perfect day, and the social time with my classmates made it even more special. I'll always remember that day.

3. What was it like to study and live in NYC this summer?

Studying and living in NYC this summer was an exhilarating experience. I lived in downtown Manhattan, and my daily commute to campus was a mix of subway rides and walking, offering me glimpses of the city's vibrant life every day. One thing that surprised me about NYC was the city's ability to be bustling yet have serene spots like Central Park where one could escape the chaos. Weekends were my favorite! I explored different neighborhoods, tried diverse cuisines, and often found myself at jazz bars or rooftop cinemas. The city's energy, diversity, and endless activities made my summer unforgettable.

4. What is your advice for students studying at NYU Stern in NYC?

Studying at NYU Stern in NYC offers a unique blend of academic rigor and urban experiences. My advice: Dive deep into your studies, but also venture out to absorb what the city offers. Network extensively; NYC is a hub of professionals from diverse fields. Explore cultural spots like museums, theaters, and music venues to broaden your perspective. Manage your time wisely; the city's lights can be distracting. Lastly, always stay safe. Familiarize yourself with the subway system and avoid deserted areas late at night. Embrace the journey!

5. What is one thing you’re looking forward to doing in Shanghai during the fall semester?

One thing I'm really excited about for the fall semester in Shanghai is practicing jazz piano. I've always been passionate about it. I'm currently on the lookout for a good teacher who can guide me further. Shanghai, with its rich musical culture, seems like the perfect place to deepen my skills. I've heard there are some great jazz clubs here too. I can't wait to immerse myself in the music scene and learn more.
