Transcripts & Degrees

General Degree Requirements

Students entering the programs are required to hold a four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the U.S. or an equivalent degree from a foreign country (in some cases, this is a three-year degree).

  • If your bachelor's degree or equivalent has been conferred by the time you submit your application, you are required to upload your final transcript (s) with proof of degree conferral and proof of graduation document(s) (i.e., a copy of your diploma) via online application.
  • If you submit your application prior to the conferral of your bachelor's degree or equivalent, we will accept and evaluate your application. This will not delay the evaluation of your application. If an offer of admission is made, it will be contingent upon the submission of final official transcripts showing proof of degree completion prior to the program start date.

Transcript Submission Requirements for the Online Application

You are required to submit a scanned transcript from each institution (including the institution you transferred from, summer program, extension program, if applicable) you are attending/have attended for the application.

It is strongly recommended that you use your official transcript as a reference when submitting a self-reported transcript. The Admissions Committee reserves the right to withdraw an offer of admission at any time, prior to or after enrolling, if there is any discrepancy between the scanned and the official transcript.

1. Language Requirements
If your institution provides an official English translation of your transcript, you must submit both the original document and the English version. For transcripts without an official English translation, applicants are required to submit the original scanned transcript along with a WES evaluation report.

Instructions for Uploading WES report

Please select the WES basic course-by-course evaluation (with GPA and course-levels) and request to have WES send your evaluation to NYU Shanghai. The school can be found by searching New York University and then selecting "Graduate Admissions - NYU Shanghai".

In order for this to be received by the application deadline listed above, we recommend you submit your transcript to be reviewed by WES no later than one month prior to the application deadline.

2. GPA and Grading Scale Documentation
Transcripts must clearly display the cumulative GPA and the institution's grading scale. If this information is not included, we strongly recommend submitting a WES course-by-course evaluation to ensure proper assessment of your academic performance. For grading systems not based on a 100-point scale, please provide official documentation/grading scale explaining the GPA scale, including the maximum achievable score (e.g., A=4.0).

3. Additional Academic Records
Applicants who completed their bachelor's degree through a dual-degree program must submit official transcripts from all participating institutions. All required academic and professional documents must be uploaded prior to application submission.

4. Transcripts for Transfer Credits
If you have transferred credits from other institutions, please provide the original transcripts for all transfer credits listed on your transcript.

Credential Submission Policy for Enrollment

Incoming students must submit verified, final, official credentials to the NYU Shanghai Office of Graduate Admissions prior to the program start date. Documentation will be verified upon receipt. The Admissions Committee reserves the right to withdraw an offer of admission at any time prior to or after enrollment if credentials cannot be received by the required submission deadline and adequately verified.

  • If your bachelor's degree or equivalent will be or has been conferred by March 31, 2027, you are required to request that your undergraduate institution submit a final official transcript with proof of degree conferral directly to the NYU Shanghai Office of Graduate Admissions (shanghai.gradadmissions@nyu.edu) after graduating and no later than one month prior to the program start date. Please also send us your proof of graduation document (i.e., a copy of your diploma) to shanghai.gradadmissions@nyu.edu.
  • If your bachelor's degree or equivalent will be or has been conferred after March 31, 2027, you are required to request that your undergraduate institution submit a final official transcript with proof of degree conferral directly to the NYU Shanghai Office of Graduate Admissions (shanghai.gradadmissions@nyu.edu) after graduating and no later than two weeks prior to the program start date. Please also send us your proof of graduation document (i.e., a copy of your diploma) to shanghai.gradadmissions@nyu.edu.
  • If your institution is unable to submit your official transcript with proof of degree conferral before the required deadline, you must apply for an extension by requesting that your undergraduate institution submit alternative documents to the NYU Shanghai Office of Graduate Admissions directly in early June:

    1. If your bachelor's degree or equivalent will be or has been conferred by March 31, 2027, please request that your undergraduate institution submit an official letter from your institution confirming that you have completed all undergraduate degree requirements before the start of the program.

    2. If your bachelor's degree or equivalent will be or has been conferred after March 31, 2027, please submit either of the following documents, or both if requested: Your most recent official transcript(s); An official letter from your institution confirming that you are on track to complete all undergraduate degree requirements before the start of the program.

Important Note: NYU cannot guarantee that an extension will be provided, as such requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis with all available information being taken into consideration. If an extension is granted, you must provide your official final transcript as soon as it is available but no later than the extension deadline.

Do not send official transcripts unless instructed to do so.
