On August 30th, NYU Shanghai held an orientation to welcome the first cohort students enrolled in the NYU Shanghai - NYU Stern MS Programs, as well as its fifth group of Master of Social Work (MSW) students.
Chancellor Yu opened the orientation with a welcome speech to NYU Shanghai’s graduate community, which consists of students from all around the world. Chancellor Yu told students to “open yourselves to the world, experience everything the diverse environment at NYU Shanghai has to offer, and see your life’s values and ideas come true .”

Assistant Dean of Graduate and Advanced Education, Eric H. Mao, gave an overview of the development of NYU Shanghai’s Master’s and PhD programs, and spoke about the bright future of the university’s graduate programs.

During the orientation, two undergraduate students from NYU Shanghai led the campus tour for the incoming graduate students , which culminated with a group photo at the newly opened graduate lounge.

Vice Chancellor of NYU Shanghai, Jeffrey Lehman, spoke at the welcome lunch for the students from two MS programs. Prof. Yuxin Chen, Dean of the Business at NYU Shanghai, as well as faculty members, Prof. David Yu, Prof. Ming Liao and Prof. Christina Dan Wang also attended the event.

The orientation also included a detailed introduction of student life at NYU Shanghai by the Student Life department , which covered topics such as community standards, student activities, campus facilities and resources, health and wellness, student visas, residential permits and more.
After the orientation, some students joined the Happy Hour and interacted with each other at a local Chinese restaurant.
